Goals for 2023

"BYOW"--Bury Ye Olde Wiki

Streamline the wiki aiming for a tight focus on the needs of
the new reader who needs the NM in a nutshell and
the translation burden on the foreign-language readers and editors.
Reflect on criteria for purging the wiki of "gratuitous" (non-essential) content. Distinguish between:
What the world needs to hear
Who needs to know
The Messenger
This Time of Revelation and the Two Great Events Shaping It
Relationships and Destiny
Apply this "haircut" to all pages with 5 or more quotes (remember the foreign language users!)
Move any quote where the content is non-essential to its User talk:Mary s Discussion Page (see the tabs above the Page Name). A search of the wiki won't find the quotes under Discussion.
Encourage students to "steal" quotes from Discussion Pages, most hopefully leaving a link to the site where the quote moved. This is the BYOW, Build Your Own Wiki project that asks: are you depending on this website to maintain the wiki you rely on?

A group-sourced index to Steps to Knowledge

BYOP--Build Your Own Wiki See example how to build your own Steps index using WordPress. Note

the use of Categories that allow the major corridors of the New Message to be broken down into sub-categories
and the tags that will collect Steps together under good topics for wiki pages.

A calling to all students : Decentralize the Wiki, reform Ye Olde Wiki

Let it begin with Steps to Knowledge, off the wiki platform, on WordPress (Wix or Naver, wherever you can archive your Step journal post) or on notecards.

Step 166: My mission is great. Therefore, I am free to do small things.'

Any basic website builder can get you what is needed, and at little to no cost.

You can begin with nearly blank pages, as long as you post a Step a day. Choose a title for the post in your own words, include as much of your Step as you wish for Review later. Include only the Step name and number if you wish. Hit the "publish" button, and set the visibility for "private." Pen and paper is an option! The data we collate about the key words and themes will go on a spreadsheet.

And the wiki will get a Steps index that we know is good and reliable, and most hopefully, our wiki training becomes a practice that is led by the Revelation and not our own impatience. What it took for me to see it, finally, was the book, How to Take Smart Notes that gives the impetus to make the New Message Wiki function at its highest and best capacity.

How to Proceed

First, do what the Messenger does: make your own wiki. This first step is the hardest to approach, having everything to do with everything.
Set the foundation for it by logging the Steps. This one strategy will integrate everything else that goes in.

Make your practice as you proceed through Steps to Knowledge. Be patient with yourself to find the right medium where you can participate and honor your inclinations. It is preferable, for the "Decentralized Wiki" that you can share your work. For making it findable for you and for any you wish to share with, a website builder like Wix or WordPress, that allows you to sort "published" and unpublished posts, labels for identifying key words and themes.

Post each Step online where you can tag, categorize and comment on your post (set to "private" at first);
And we will have a Steps index in no time!
Make it your own and
  • add the events of the day (embedded in code for editors' eyes only <!--text to hide-->)
  • do rearrange the paragraphs in the Step, to better see what is being asked. Again, the post is not ready for the public until at least half of it is in your own words.
  • copy the instructions for the hourly and for the longer practices for your Step review
  • use Categories for the major corridors and break those down into further aspects
  • use tags for key words, as many tags as you see
  • post each Step in order, to keep them consecutive.
  • As often as that Step comes to mind, do jot down your insights or NM quotes as comments or behind "your eyes only" code <!--text to hide-->)
  • Set the visibility to "private" for now. Someday you can post a related blog that includes your own thoughts.
Be patient, and
do not share with the public either
a good and exact copy of the Step or
a rearranged version.
other wiki work
Step 109: I will not be in a hurry today.
Casual edits--quotes with the name and date of the revelation-- are just fine! Put them right there on the page or make a new page if needed.
OR send great quotes to the Wiki editors on the Worldwide Community site.
OR add your quote with name and date of the revelation where you found it under the Discussion tab at the top of every page, if you would like another editor to follow up
Formal edits take practice. The formatting comes easily with repetition. There are simple ways to get enough practice to gain confidence.
Focus on one skill at a time, like cross-references or images or references.
