Paragraphs that do not have citations raise question ("do I need to check this citation?") and could also be separated from the subsequent paragraph with the citation (ref), causing even more questions. So, forget about the dainty way of using quotation marks to show continuity, and make sure the source for each paragraph is clearly marked. --Mary s 20:50, 11 November 2013 (PST)

::Note: based on Will's concern (and the perplexing difficulty sometimes in locating a quote missing its attribution!), it is o.k. to combine paragraphs in order to avoid the chance they might get separated or any question arise about the source of a paragraph. Not only o.k., it is needful. The only exception has been where formatting tools rearrange the text on the read page but the edit page clearly contains the excerpt as a unity, with no paragraph breaks.Mary s (talk) 10:18, 25 September 2016 (PDT)

Discussion

Page titles

There is a preference for using sentence case--capitalized as if in a sentence---for the reason that it saves editors a little effort when embedding links if the capitalization matches the caps in the sentence where you want to add the link. This is only a suggestion that as a rule is sometimes overlooked, and that is not a big deal. Mary s (talk) 10:08, 25 September 2016 (PDT)

Formatting References

PROPER FORMATTING IS NOT REQUIRED OR NECESSARY! Contributions are vital; the hypertext formatting code is not.

Other guidelines
Please give the name and date of the Teaching you quote
Post NMG quotations only, no original content Mary s (talk) 10:04, 25 September 2016 (PDT)

Ellipses

If you cut the beginning of a sentence from your quote, with a full sentence remaining, just capitalize the first word in the new (partial) sentence, no ellipses points (...) needed. Do use ellipses points (...) if omitting words from within the quotation. --Mary s 21:00, 16 November 2011 (PST)

Discussion pages

I am using Discussion pages as holding places for undecided content, such as outlines or unattributed/unverified quotations. For example Talk:The Messenger, where I'm jotting down the references cited during the Messenger's Vigil so we can review this most important page for completeness and correct emphasis. I'm using my own discussion page (User talk:Mary s) to hold notes and suggestions from others. --Mary s 08:42, 3 March 2014 (PST)

Pages needing administrator

Main Page The corridors need to link to categories, right? Following example of category:God ? Categories are listed on help page (search box only brings up 9 of 11). Alternatively, my preference actually, a "see also" link at the bottom of the corridor's main entrance, the page of that title.

I'm not sure about this.-WillWikiAdmin 18:31, 23 November 2011 (PST)
A "see also" is redundant; clicking on the category itself opens the category page. --Mary s 19:25, 23 November 2011 (PST)
Better if the corridor links go to pages instead of categories. I'll change that. I don't think "See also" is redundant, since it's tailored page by page to take people to closely related pages that may not be in the same category.-WillWikiAdmin 18:35, 7 December 2011 (PST)
Sorry, the redundant "see also" I meant was to list a category page under a "see also" heading-- Mary s 20:42, 7 December 2011 (PST)

Quotation marks

If the material is more than one paragraph, use opening quotation marks for each paragraph but closing quotation marks only at the end.--Mary s 18:59, 16 November 2011 (PST)

Text formatting

What do you say we tighten up the quotations with lots of white space? --Mary s 20:07, 16 November 2011 (PST)

When I quote an excerpt that straddles paragraphs, I combine them ignoring the paragraph break.--Mary s 20:07, 16 November 2011 (PST)

When copying from other sources and pasting onto wiki, a couple things (so far) to watch: 1) two hyphens does not equal an mdash in wikiscript. You will need to replace them with code: ampersand, mdash, semicolon — find it on chart at help page for formatting). 2) In passages with quotation marks, change them to apostrophes. --Mary s 12:40, 17 November 2011 (PST)

I feel that two hyphens will do in a pinch. It can be later cleaned up with a search, right? It needs to remain easy for people to pop the wiki open, drop in an excellent quote, and leave, without worrying about syntax. And yes, a real mdash will look better and be easier to read.WikiAdmin 18:34, 23 November 2011 (PST)
I was wrong about using two hyphens; they do seem to join now (in an ndash, i guess, but ok, ok).

Capitalization in Page Titles

Page titles are cap sensitive, except for the initial letter in the title. For convenient internal linking, I prefer to only use caps in the first letter of the page title and any word that is commonly capitalized in the New Message ("Great Waves of change"). This does not apply to the "Quotes About _____" pages, which are all redirects. --Mary s 20:50, 11 November 2013 (PST)
