"Clearly, living in joyful expectation is not adequate, for there are indeed forces at hand that are not benevolent and are using human beings for purposes that do not support the well-being of humanity. What is called for is responsibility, Wisdom, certain forms of empowerment and a greater understanding of what intelligence is and how it interacts in its different forms." [1]

Directives

"Never think that any race in the universe that travels for commerce is spiritually advanced. Those who seek commerce seek advantage. Those who travel from world to world, those who are resource explorers, those who seek to plant their own flags are not what you would consider to be spiritually advanced."[2]

Rescue

"The visitors will cast themselves as saviors and rescuers of humanity." [3]

"People hope there is a more intelligent, more benevolent race of beings like us out there in the Universe, who could teach us and help us and shepherd us through our difficult transition into becoming a race that is capable of functioning within a Greater Community of intelligent life." [4]

Escape

"People have associated the greater Community with their heavenly state. They look at the stars and they say, 'That is the heavenly abode. I will be free there. In the world I am not free. But there I will be free.' And this assumption has been reinforced throughout the centuries, so people naturally think that visitors from the Greater Community will be Angelic and will be enlightened and will be coming here for the sole purpose of edifying humanity, uplifting humanity and enlightening humanity."[5]

Projection from a limited viewpoint

"People project their own values upon what they think life might be like in the Universe. As a result of this, people project human values, human aspirations, human concerns and human ethics on their speculation about intelligent life in the Universe. For many people, this results in projection of the belief in a superhuman race in the Universe, for it is very difficult for people to consider there are races very different from their own, whose values and ethics are very different from their own." [4]

Naiveté

"The person who will do you the most harm could well be someone who is totally enchanting to you and who seems to fit the absolute picture of what you are trying to acquire for yourself." [6]
